The rooftop in Hong Kong you’ve never heard of

Everybody’s always talking about Sevva, Armani Prive, Sugar, Hooray, ToTT’s, Wooloomooloo (which I love btw), Cafe Grey… but recently I discovered a secret rooftop in HK that I’ve never read about before – RIVA and The Deck at The Park Lane Causeway Bay:

I came here to interview the General Manager of The Park Lane Hotel, a Belgian national by the name of Luc Bollen.

“You have to invest in yourself” was one of the stronger words I remember from my interview with him. He was talking about how he went back to school after working as a chef in different hotels, because he wanted to transition into more managerial roles.

It doesn’t seem like the hotel’s sales and marketing are very aggressive in promoting the place, hence nobody really knows about it, but on the flip side that may be a good thing since you could have this place all to yourself.

The Park Lane is actually renovating the rooftop (different from the balcony) in order to make it an events space/garden. This year also marks their 40th anniversary in Hong Kong – watch out for them!

Great rooftop with a nice view of the Kowloon side. The manager, Anthony is quite arrogant and anti-social, which explains the lull in marketing aggression. It has the makings of a great bar but will require an injection of youth and ideas.
